We built a virtual platform for COVID-19 safety protocols, weather, and emergencies. This option is only utilized in certain circumstances.
Over the years, professional chefs, both local and foreign, have volunteered to serve as taste judges for the events. They may have to perform all-expenses-paid travel across the Bahamas if the necessity arises. We have also included other judges from the community in the past and will do so in the future.
FCS and Hospitality and Tourism Studies Students in grades 7-9 and 10-12. Students should express their interest to their parents as well as their school's teachers and principals. They will ultimately choose who competes in Phase 1 school-based competitions.
Partial scholarships are awarded at Johnson and Wales University. Monroe College has also partnered with us in the past. Our future goal is to award a full scholarship to the senior winner.
Phase 1: Inner school runoffs should be held to find the winner or representative to move on to Phase 2 or 3.
Phase 2: This phase is for district competitions (larger islands). Each island district is expected to conduct a competition, where settlements (districts) compete to find the island representative for Phase 3 in the FINALS.
Phase 3: All islands combine to compete for overall junior and seniors winners 1st, 2nd, 3rd Medals and 4th Place Ribbons.
The competition's founders and sponsors selected Easter/Spring (January - March) due to the most favorable weather conditions and school schedules. However, the Ministry of Education has selected September through November as the new competition dates following COVID-19.
The winners are awarded cash rewards. Nevertheless, it is the responsibility of schools and parents to support the junior and senior students as they advance to represent their school and the island. In Phase 3, the event's sponsors will furnish the necessary materials for the concluding round.
